“The Healing Process” Poem

I never knew how much harm words could do
until those hurtful words came from you.
Your voice was like a soothing lullaby,
but that all changed when you said “goodbye”.

You used to be my best friend,
and I thought you would be there until the end.
You used to be the fire in my dim life,
but now you’re the darkness that resorted to strife.

You decided my spirit was something you wanted to steal,
and you didn’t care about how I would feel.

It’s a shame you had to be so hateful,
but for the good years I will forever be grateful.

Now you’re gone and I will get stronger-
I just need a little longer.
These wounds will eventually heal,

but the scars you leave behind will be all too real.
