1. Crocheting
Crocheting has been something that has helped me out tremendously during the pandemic. Having something to keep my hands busy when I am feeling anxious is extremely helpful. The monotonous movement allowed me to multitask while I caught up on some reading or my latest tv show.
2. Reading
There is nothing better than a good book. E-book, physical copy, or audio book— all are great when you are looking for a productive way to spend your time.
3. Instruments
Learning how to play an instrument is one of the most rewarding things I have experienced. Practice makes perfect, so spending some time every day working on getting better at an instrument makes a difference.
4. Learn a new language
Learning a new language is ten times more fun when you are not worried about tests or homework assignments coming up. I use the app Duolingo and the daily notifications help to keep me motivated. This is especially helpful if you are somebody who enjoys traveling.
5. Arts and Crafts
Pull out some paint or even some crayons. Unleash your inner child and create some art from scratch. I tend to browse Pinterest for some inspiration when I get a little lost. This is also a fun hobby to do with a friend or a sibling.
6. Exercise
Physical fitness is always important, so find a fun way to incorporate it into your day this summer. Getting some friends together for basketball, going to the batting cages, tennis, or swimming are fun ways to keep your body moving.
7. Dance
This goes along with the exercise point since dancing is definitely effective at raising your heart rate. Whether you are alone in your room having a dance party to your favorite artist, or you are hanging by a bonfire with friends— make time to dance and just have fun. For extra points, dance in the rain.
8. Video Games
There are just some days when you want to spend some time in your room. Playing video games is a great tool to keep you busy. You can play alone if you wish or coordinate times with your friends. (I loved playing Hidden Agenda on the Playstation 4 with my family)
9. Learn to cook
Cooking is an important tool to have on your belt in life. Look up some tasty recipes on YouTube and try your hand at recreating them.
10. Volunteer
Volunteering is a rewarding and selfless way to spend your free time. There is usually something going on in town to lend a hand to during the summer. It can also be a great way to meet new people.
