What You Give You Don’t Receive (Poem)

Attention is like firewood.

You continue adding logs to the flame

in a desperate attempt to keep the relationship alive

and thriving.

You can’t abandon the fire.

Eventually everything will burn out.

You can’t put in too much either,

or everything will erupt into a raging flame,

wrecking havoc and destruction.

Love is not a boomerang.

Just because you throw it out into the world

doesn’t mean you get it back.

You are not owed anything.

Take caution with what you give.

Budget what you have, and you will blossom-

being left in a better state than before.

Give too little

and everything dies.

Give too much

and you’re left with nothing.

Empty.
