Who I Am Now
By: Ashley O’Hare
I looked up to you for so long
Now my neck is aching.
I raised you up-
Showed you what it really means
To have trust and to love.
You knocked me down;
Made me all too familiar with the ground.
Now I’m digging in my heels.
I’m rooting for myself-
Forcing my soul to grow.
Today you passed by ,
Walking slow
Eyes cast low—
Is this truly how we are now?
Are you going to pretend I no longer exist?
Or did you just not recognize me
When I am no longer under your boot of control?
