“I Never Claimed To Be Perfect” Poem

I Never Claimed To Be Perfect

By Ashley O’Hare

I never claimed

To be perfect.

I only said

I was trying,

but my arms

aren’t strong enough.

I can’t fight this battle

all by myself.

A few hours

was easy.

A few days

was fine.

A few weeks

made me queasy.

A few months

and that crossed the line.

Years down the road,

my body is giving up.

My mind ran out of plans.

I never claimed to be perfect,

but I wish I could.
