Back in Time
By Ashley O’Hare
Peering back to the past
through the rose-colored cast
I can almost see how we thought this would last.
Your immature sass
was funny when it distracted the class—
not at the cost of treating a person like trash.
Are you happy with yourself these days?
Do you treat people better so they will stay?
Is it too little too late?
I hope for your sake
that you have learned to give more than you take,
even if it is not a piece of cake.
Deep down, I still care about you.
Even on days where it makes me blue,
part of me hopes that you care too.
