A Glimmer of Hope
By Ashley O’Hare
What do I have going for me
if I do not have a pretty face
or a prestigious college degree?
My guidance counselors in school
have prepared me for the moment
where my luck turned to stool.
It is all fast food from here;
feeling low all day
and hungover from too much beer.
Money doesn’t buy happiness
until your soul is as empty as your wallet
and you can not imagine being worth less.
I still have hope up my sleeve
that one day my eyes will gaze into a mirror,
see me, and truly believe.
