The ‘Avengers Infinity Saga’ is Great Out of Order

I Watched The Avengers Infinity Saga Out of Order

Marvel movies were occasionally playing in my home when I was growing up, but I did not sit down and watch the Avengers series for years. By the time I did decided to watch the Infinity Saga, I had no idea that there was a specific order to watch them. Needless to say I was very confused during some of these movies until I finished the series and pieced them together. This was the order in which I got through the series:

1. Avengers

I actually saw this movie within the first year of its release with my family. I ended up having to watch Avengers again (after Avengers: Endgame) because I could not remember many details from the film. During this time in my life, I was ending m Twilight phase and entering my The Hunger Games phase.

2. Ant-Man

This was another film that I watched with my family. There was a drive-in theater where I grew up and Ant-Man was one of the movies I got to watch there. At this point, I did not even know that Ant-Man was a part of the Avengers franchise. I did not even stay for the post-credit scenes after this film.

3. Avengers: Infinity War

This was the first Avengers movie that I watched on my own. This was also quite possibly the worst movie to start off with. This was before Disney Plus was created, so Avengers: Infinity War was on the Netflix front page. I thoroughly enjoyed Infinity War, but I can remember texting my friend, who was a Marvel fan, a million questions after the movie ended.

4. Spider-Man: Homecoming

I have always been a fan of Spider-Man movies, so Homecoming was the perfect next step. It was a fun film that did not require me to have seen any previous movies to understand.

5. Thor: Ragnarok

Thor: Ragnarok was another movie that was easy to understand without prior knowledge of any Marvel movies.

6. Black Panther

A friend of mine recommended Black Panther, and I’m glad they did. Once again, I was able to watch this movie in its entirety without feeling confused.

7. Captain America: Civil War

There were so many characters and plot points that I missed going into this film. If you are going to watch Civil War, watch Avengers: Age of Ultron and Captain America: The Winter Soldier at the very least.

8. Guardians of the Galaxy 2

9. Guardians of the Galaxy

I watched the Guardians movies out of order completely by accident. As a pair, you can watch them without the rest of the Avengers movies. I do recommend watching them chronologically, unlike me. They are both funny films that are perfect for a casual summer viewing.

10. Spider-Man: Far From Home

I think Far From Home is technically part of the Infinity Saga because it has to do with the aftermath of Endgame. I watched this movie in theaters, and was a little confused since the only information I had to go on was the trailers from the movies that I missed.

11. Avengers: Age of Ultron

Age of Ultron has gotten a lot of hate over the years, but it was one of my absolute favorites out of the entire series.

12. Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Of course The Winter Soldier had to be on tv a week before The First Avenger. When it came to reveal the identity of The Winter Soldier, I have never been more confused. This was an enjoyable film that was visually stunning, but do not watch this before the first Captain America.

13. Captain America: The First Avenger

This is the first movie that I showed my family when I introduced them to the series. This movie is not the first movie in order of release, but it is the first in chronological order.

14. Doctor Strange

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I loved this movie. This is another movie that is understandable as a stand-alone.

15. Captain Marvel

Captain Marvel is another movie that gets a lot of hate, but I actually really like it. It feels different in tone from the rest of the films, but it is very enjoyable. You can technically watch this one on its own, but you will miss out on some easter eggs.

16. Avengers: Endgame

This movie broke my heart. This was also the last movie I watched on cable before opting to subscribe to Disney Plus. I would not recommend watching this movie before the rest of the series. While you can understand the plot, the movie loses some of its weight when you are not as emotionally invested in the characters.

17. Ant-Man and The Wasp

After you watch Ant-Man, you can watch this movie. This film was a saving grace after the darkness of Endgame.

18. Iron Man

Since this was the first movie to be premiered, there is no confusion while watching the film. It is a phenomenal movie and is a fun experience.

19. Iron Man 2

Once again, a great movie that is easy to follow.

20. Thor

Watching Thor made me appreciate his character as a whole more.

21. Iron Man 3

I probably sound like a broken record by now because I love every movie in the Infinity Saga, but this movie is also amazing. You should definitely watch it after Avengers to understand Tony’s character arc.

22. Thor: The Dark World

Once again this is a movie that I love, but the reviews say otherwise. I loved the brother dynamic between Thor and Loki in this sequel and found myself laughing a lot.

I never watched The Incredible Hulk, so that is the only movie that I can not fit into this list. I have seen bits and pieces of a Hulk movie, but I am not entirely sure if it was the 2003 film or 2008.

This probably goes without saying, but don’t do what I did. This series is so much more powerful if you watch it in its intended order. However, if you don’t mind feeling confused or you enjoy speculating, it can be really fun to try to piece things together.

Have you seen the Infinity Saga? Did you watch the movies in order?
