Insufficient Recovery
By Ashley O’Hare
Don’t reach out.
I finally closed that chapter,
but it’s barricaded with
stuffed animals and band aids.
Don’t judge me.
These past few years
have taken absolutely everything-
there’s no point in wasting energy
on taking inventory.
Just stay away.
I don’t have a second layer
of defense to push back.
One shove and I’ll fall apart
with no hope of pulling back together again.
A king’s horses and men
could not repair Humpty Dumpty.
It is unfair
to expect me to succeed
where so many have failed.
