“The Greatest Lie” Poem

The Greatest Lie

By Ashley O’Hare

“What doesn’t kill you

makes you stronger”

is the greatest lie

I have been told.

My heart is a tool

and repairs take longer

when I lack the means to buy

knowledge worth its weight in gold.

Because I was a fool,

I get to live my days as a farmer—

relying on the sun’s timeline

to defrost my soul that has run cold.
