They Say
By Ashley O’Hare
They say,
“You don’t know pain—
You’ve got so much on your plate.”
They say,
“You should be more grateful—
Your glass is always half full.”
They say,
“Pull yourself together—
It’s just bad weather.”
They say,
“You only bleed when you’re alive—
Be happy you can fight.”
They say,
“Don’t tell me your problems, listen to mine—
If you’re busy, just make more time.”
They say,
“You’re too young to be burnt out—
You’re just too lazy for the tough route.”
So I say,
With a smile and a nod,
“You’re probably right.”
And I keep everything where it belongs—
On the inside.
