I Hope
By Ashley O’Hare
I hope you never feel
your lungs drain of oxygen.
I hope you never see
your room closing in on you.
I hope you remember your umbrella
when it’s raining cats and dogs.
I hope you realize that
even closed doors can open.
I hope you look in the mirror
and smile with pride.
I hope you only touch a scale
to rip the batteries out.
I hope your internal monologue
is your biggest cheerleader.
I hope you face fears face first
and leave negativity in the rearview mirror.
I hope you let people in
and allow them to fill your heart with love.
I hope you will never
end up like me.
