Simple and Meaningful Ways to Brighten Someone’s Day

Simple Ways to Brighten Someone’s Day

With all of the negativity in the world, it is important to make conscious decisions to be more positive. Positive / kind actions have a positive effect on the world around us. Here are some simple ways to have a positive effect on the people around you.

  • Hold the door open

Whether this is the elevator doors, a store, or at school, holding the door open for someone else is a polite gesture that anybody would appreciate.

  • Make a random phone call

Call your parents and tell them you love them. Call your best friend and ask how their week has been. Texting is convenient so we fall back on it a lot, but there is something so special about spontaneously calling a loved one and hearing their voice.

  • Smile

Smiling when you see your friend or family member reassures them that you are happy to see them. Sometimes we get so wrapped up in our stressful lives that we forget to let people know how much we appreciate their presence.

  • Give a compliment

This could be to anyone— even a stranger. Complimenting someone on their work, their fashion sense, or their hairstyle are some easy topics that will brighten their spirits and strengthen their confidence.

  • Say “Thank you”

This one in particular is perfect anybody, but especially in the fast food drive-thru. Taking a moment to thank the workers for helping you goes a long way.

  • Refrain from gossiping

There is never a lot of good news being broadcast on local News channels and papers. Refraining from gossiping about others when you are making conversation helps keep the conversation light and positive.
