I Was. I Will Be.
By Ashley O’Hare
If the person I was
ten years ago
could see me now,
she would cry. Oh,
how disappointed
she would be
to know that she is me:
Someone who gives up.
Someone crippled by memories.
Someone numb to the world.
If I could speak
to the person I will be
ten years from now,
I would stand up straight
and tell the person before me
that it is okay.
I got through it.
I can stand again.
I have hope that one day,
I can feel again.
