“New Year’s Eve” Poem of the Day (2022)

New Year’s Eve

By Ashley O’Hare

Every day feels like New Year’s Eve.

I am counting down the seconds

until my fresh start begins.

With nauseating deja vu,

I wake every morning

without a clue of what to do.

The bell rang—

school is out.

I clocked out of my last shift—

work isn’t expecting me.

Nobody cares what I do.

My dreams will never know if I see them through.

Nobody but me

knows that I am holding on

by the skin of my teeth.
