Like It Was Yesterday
By Ashley O’Hare
I remember it like it like it was yesterday:
my racing heart,
the intense queasiness in my stomach
as I hoped you felt the same way.
Flash forward to now,
we’re approaching the ten year anniversary
of our first meeting
and you are no longer around.
I thought my heart was strong enough to shake you
the way my brain lost the ring of your voice,
but now and then I hear your name
and those bruises are freshly blue.
No matter what I do
I remember you.
