Salad Toppings to Try
Whenever we want to eat healthier, a salad is one of the first food dishes to pop into our minds. On their own, they are delicious and nutritious with the vitamins and minerals packed into different vegetables. The downside of turning to salad is running the risk of getting bored of it. Here are some toppings to try on your salads for some variety:
- Croutons + Dressing
These aren’t toppings I typically gravitate to personally, but they are classics for a reason. There are so many different flavors to try to excite your palate and liven up your plate.
- Black Pepper
Coarse ground black pepper is a simple seasoning, but it makes a huge difference in your salad. The pepper adds a little kick to the fresh flavors.
- Parmesan / Mozzarella Cheese
I prefer grated cheese, but shredded cheese also works great. Parmesan and mozzarella cheese are smooth and add some calcium to the dish.
- Almonds
I prefer to get the bags of sliced almonds so it is easier to eat with a fork. Adding almonds helps you feel fuller and more satisfied. There are different flavors available, like honey roasted and barbecue.
- Fruit
For a little extra sweetness, add some fruit to your plate of vegetables. Some berries or grapes add good variation and even more vitamins while satisfying your sweet tooth.
- Meat
For extra substance, add meat to the dish. I prefer chicken and turkey, but this is also good with some fish on the side.
