Somewhere In The World
By Ashley O’Hare
Somewhere in the world
there is a baby being born.
A miracle is occurring this very second.
Somewhere in the world
a person is drawing their last breath,
embracing life’s harshest reality.
A balance of good and bad;
of joy and sorrow;
a beginning and an ending.
I suppose it was fate’s hand
that tore us apart.
The honeymoon stage had to end.
We are not powerful enough to make laws bend.
Our ending has reached its final moments–
we knew the expiration date was fast-approaching.
I’ll stand up straight and wish you luck on your journey
with a smile plastered on my face.
I can’t be a part of it,
but I want you to have a good life.
I want you to find joy,
and peace,
and love.
With any luck
our stories were told backwards,
forcing us to endure a lifetime of agony
before happiness comes crashing in
and consumes us.
