Numb To The World
By Ashley O’Hare
He was sunshine
peeking through the fluffy clouds.
He was hot chocolate
during a brutal snowstorm.
He was a stubborn dandelion
erupting from the cracks in the concrete.
A reminder that
there is warmth to be found
in every corner of the universe.
But he was my life vest
in the rough rapids.
He was my medicine
in my bathroom cabinet.
He was the music
singing symphonies in my ears.
Without him
I’m afraid I won’t feel warm;
that I’ll be numb to the world–
oblivious to the best
and the worst
that life has to offer.
