Simple Ways to Save Money Every Month
Saving a few dollars here and there may not seem like a big deal, but it adds up fast. Here are 6 ways I save money every month:
- Buy store brand
Generic store brand products are usually just as good as the name brand products— sometimes even better. I save a ton of my grocery bill by shopping by the store brand.
- Clip coupons
I still get flyers in the mail with coupons for local stores and restaurants, but you can also find coupons right on your phone. Many stores have their own mobile apps now that are filled with coupons for you to use. If you enjoy online shopping, you can use the browser extension Honey for free. Honey searches the web for the best promotional deals when you go to check out. Using coupons doesn’t have to be extreme like in the tv shows for you to save a few dollars. You can, however, look into some couponers on YouTube if you want to make the absolute most out of coupons.
- Carpool when possible
Carpooling with friends / family or using public transportation can save you money on gas and wear and tear on your vehicle. If you know your friend also needs to pick up some groceries, arrange to go shopping together and split the gas bill. You get the fun of shopping with company and the ease of mind from saving some money.
- Plan your meals a week in advance
It is so easy to rush to a restaurant after work for a bite to eat. However, this habit unfortunately adds up quickly. Meal planning and prepping a week in advance ensures you have food waiting for you at home. This is also a great way to eat healthier and cook more.
- Use a cash back credit card
Credit cards are not bad as long as you stay on top of your payments. I pay mine off at the end of the month whenever possible to avoid accruing interest. If you are going to use a credit card, I recommend using one that gives you cash back. There are some that give 1-5% back depending on what you purchased.
- Look into rewards programs
Most stores have rewards programs that are completely free to enroll in. You can earn money back on your purchases and use them on your next shopping trip. Local grocery stores and department stores that you visit frequently are all great places to sign up.
