“You Were Long Gone” Poem of the Day (2022)

You Were Long Gone

By Ashley O’Hare

The clock is ticking on the wall

as I am pacing down the hall.

Why did you have to call?

I thought our journey was over–

you were long gone.

It ended with that fight

on a cool summer night.

Put the book back on the shelf-

we both know I am better by myself.

I can’t think about you now.

It is nice to hear your voice;

I wish I could see your face

so you can tell me everything is okay.

My wants and my needs

never see eye to eye.

I need to look out for me

and say a final goodbye.
