“Two Years” Poem of the Day (2022)

Two Years

By Ashley O’Hare

If in two years

I am still living here,

run for the hills-

the end is near.

If I never escape

this suffocating town,

please give me a reason

to hide my frown.

Keeping an air of positivity

is positively hurting me.

I cannot keep this smile on my face

as I pass time counting trees.

It is a beautiful town

if your heart hasn’t been poked with a stake,

but I am scared out of my mind-

leaving is for my own selfish sake.
