“Friend 2.0” Poem of the Day (2022)

Friend 2.0

By Ashley O’Hare

The new model of friend

is frustrating to use.
I press emoticons,

but never feel emotions.

We spend hours of time together

in the vast void of cyber space.

Their avatar is unique-

I wonder if it matches their face.

I could write a biography

on the person they pretend to be-

would they be a source that’s reputable

to put on the bibliography?

Have I been spilling my heart

to a stranger fluent in lies?

A well cloaked, heartless AI?

Have I wasted my time

searching for an internet connection?

Perhaps the next update

will bring better luck.
