A Search For Joy
By Ashley O’Hare
I have lived in ten houses,
not a single home.
My skin
never fit properly on my bones.
I have never been isolated,
but I have felt alone.
I have searched for joy
in flowers and ice creams cones
only to find that happiness
comes with a loan.
So I accept a simple life
under a safe little dome
because hope has been lost on me
the older I have grown.
