“Seven Years”
By Ashley O’Hare
It’s that time of the year.
The August heat
brings fresh tears.
How have we stumbled upon
this seventh anniversary
so quickly?
I thought it was yesterday
we were shaking hands
with a timid first glance.
Now that is ancient history.
Now the line has been drawn in the sand
that our bond is too fractured to withstand.
There are a million words
I wish I could say,
but the high road
has forced me out of your way.
Against every force of nature
there are eleven letters
I have signed, sealed, and delivered.
I did love you.
