“Missed Days”
By Ashley O’Hare
A decade
brings more changes
than the number of candles
flickering on my birthday cake.
I now look at my future
with a frown on my face-
how could I let
the sunshine fade?
Each year passes
with an ache
in my bones-
I do not want to stay alone.
My hopes and my fears;
I have held them dear.
Now I cannot
tell them apart.
I’ve been entranced
by the past ten years,
I missed the day
I began the next one.
