“Mother Nature”
By Ashley O’Hare
When the summer rain
drums against my windshield,
I turn down the music
and allow myself to feel.
How fascinating
are human emotions?
We self inflict more pain
than a villain’s potions.
If only my brain
could better protect itself.
If only Mother Nature
could lend a hand to help.
The sun’s rays eventually
seeped into my pores.
The sudden sweetness
shook me to my core.
Two years of gradual healing
came to a head
like a gas tank filling.
So I let the rain
consume the thoughts
that would otherwise
drive me insane.
