“My Mistake”
By Ashley O’Hare
I make a mistake.
Today I stepped
outside to rake
and everything changed.
Without my security blanket,
oxygen was free
to dive into my lungs-
the air is sweet.
My pessimism
disappeared with a gust of wind,
tagging along with the dandelions
in search of a new place to begin.
The sky is brighter
without a pair of blinders;
this beautiful world is kinder.
Now I’ll never
be the same.
I know too much
to play those old games.
