“Chilled Bones” Poem of the Day (2022)

“Chilled Bones”

By Ashley O’Hare

The foliage changes

outside my bedroom window;

a subtle reminder

that time still passes

even though we’re through.

I try to move on,

but my feet are

glued to the carpet.

In the back of my mind

I know you’re with her

at the downtown bar.

But when you’ve dropped her off at home

and you’re driving all alone,

do you feel a chill in your bones?

Does any part of you regret

filling my life with stress

only to abandon me

so you could “be free?”
