Ranking Taylor Swift’s New Album “Midnights”

Ranking Taylor Swift’s Midnights Album

For the first time ever, I am actually on time for one of Taylor Swift’s new albums. I have grown up listening to her music, but I have never been an active fan during the countdown leading up to an album’s release. Usually I hear a new song on the radio and only listen to the singles.

Before I listened to the album to the first time, I thought this would be my ranking from favorite to least favorite, solely based on the titles:

  1. Labyrinth
  2. Midnight Rain
  3. Lavender Haze
  4. Karma
  5. Anti-Hero
  6. You’re On Your Own, Kid
  7. Snow On The Beach (feat. Lana Del Rey)
  8. Maroon
  9. Sweet Nothing
  10. Question…?
  11. Mastermind
  12. Vigilante Shit
  13. Bejeweled

After listening to her album this morning, this is my new ranking of the songs:

  1. Labyrinth

Originally I loved this title because it reminded me of Greek Mythology. This song is beautiful and calming.

  1. Question…?

This song jumped up high on my list. It reminded me of the old Taylor Swift songs that tell a clear story.

  1. Vigilante Shit

I wasn’t expecting to like this song so much. This will be a song on a lot of people’s playlists when they are looking for some confidence.

  1. Lavender Haze

This song was immediately added to my driving playlist. During my first listen, I had the urge to drive down to the beach with the windows down.

  1. Anti-Hero

These lyrics are beautiful and eerily relatable.

  1. Sweet Nothing

The piano in Sweet Nothing is gorgeous.

  1. Mastermind

Mastermind is a song I would play in the background while I am cleaning up my house.

  1. You’re On Your Own, Kid

If I was graduating high school this year, this song would be higher on my list.

  1. Snow On The Beach (feat. Lana Del Rey)

This song is pretty, but I was expecting Lana Del Rey to be featured more on the recording.

  1. Maroon

I can’t get enough of this chorus.

  1. Midnight Rain

The beat in Midnight Rain reminds me of summer nights with the windows open, when there is too much on your mind to sleep.

  1. Karma

I had an English teacher in high school that 100 percent would have had us analyze these lyrics during our poetry unit.

  1. Bejeweled

Bejeweled has a cool beat.

Midnights is a fantastic album as a whole. I listened to every song without wanting to skip anything. Ranking the songs before and after listening was a lot of fun, even if I was only right about 3/13. I also listened to the clean version on Spotify during my first listen rather than the explicit version. Though it was an accident, I prefer the clean version to the explicit.
