The Best Movies To Watch On HBOMax This Halloween

What to Watch on HBOMax this Halloween

HBOMax is quickly becoming my go to streaming service. The app has become more user friendly over the last two years. There is a designated section on the homepage for their Halloween picks as well as Horror and Suspense filters for their movies and tv shows.

There are some movies and shows that I have watched during this season in the past as well as some movies that have been on my bucket list for years.

Movies / Shows I Have Watched and Recommend:

  1. The Vampire Diaries

I only watched the first couple seasons of this show when it was on Netflix, but it is perfect for this spooky season. You can’t go wrong with a series focused on Vampires.

  1. Courage the Cowardly Dog

Courage the Cowardly Dog scared me when I was a little kid. This is the perfect show to watch this Halloween if you are in a nostalgic mood and do not want to have nightmares.

  1. Annabelle

Annabelle is one of the only horror movies I have been able to sit through in its entirety. I still had to have company in the room to get through it, so I would recommend this film if you are looking to get creeped out.

  1. Pretty Little Liars

Pretty Little Liars and its reboot capture the atmosphere of the Halloween season with the suspenseful storylines.

  1. Scoob!

Scooby-Doo is a classic and this modern take is fun for all ages.

  1. Where the Wild Things Are

I watched this movie after reading the novel. The storyline is intriguing and eerie.

  1. Spirited Away

The animation in this movie is beautiful and adds to the enjoyable viewing experience.

  1. The Batman

The Batman follows a crime case and is more suspenseful than scary, but it is such a good movie that I will recommend it year round.

  1. The DaVinci Code

This storyline is mystery oriented with some creepy undertones. I highly recommend reading the novel before watching the movie.

  1. V For Vendetta

This classic’s main character is the epitome of a vigilante.

Movies / Shows On My Bucket List:

  1. Corpse Bride

I have been wanting to watch more of Tim Burton’s movies for a while now, so I was excited to see Corpse Bride on HBO. I have heard rave reviews of this movie over the years.

  1. Gremlins

An old friend of mine said that this movie used to give them nightmares when they were younger, so I have had it on my watch list for years out of curiosity.

  1. The Purge

The trailer freaked me out when this movie was first coming out in theaters, so I never had the guts to watch it.

  1. The Blair Witch Project

The camera work in this movie has always been intriguing, but I have been scared to sit down and watch it.

  1. Final Destination

The Final Destination series is available on HBOMax, but I am scared to start watching them. The few clips I have seen made me scared to leave my house for a week.

  1. Friday the 13th
  2. Nightmare On Elm Street
  3. Texas Chainsaw
  4. Ouija

Whenever these movies come up, I have the urge to cover my eyes. They are classics for Halloween that are always referenced, but I feel like I will have nightmares for a month.

  1. Scooby-Doo Camp Scare

Once again, Scooby-Doo is the perfect go to for Halloween. It is a safe choice if you want to get into the Halloween spirit.

  1. Lord of the Flies

I read this novel in high school and have been curious about the movie adaptation. It is not a horror movie, but the overall tone of the story is eerie enough for me to categorize it under my Halloween list.

I was pleasantly surprised with the choices available on HBOMax this year. From the classic horrors to Halloween specials of your favorite TV shows, everything is easily accessible.
