“Irreparable”
By Ashley O’Hare
We said we would get matching tattoos
so we would never be apart,
but you one-upped it;
you left me branded.
My heart still feels the sting
of every missing piece
you took with you-
you left my lips blue.
You can’t give it back;
it’s long gone in your trash.
This scar tissue is trying its best
to replace what you snatched.
When I meet someone new,
he won’t know what to do-
a heart shouldn’t be black;
a heart shouldn’t fall flat.
