“Unexpected Beauty” Poem of the Day (2022)

“Unexpected Beauty”

By Ashley O’Hare

My heart is beating

outside of my chest,

miles away

in the moon’s crest.

I thought it would be safest

out in the wild.

The numbness-

once a sharp chill

has become blanket of snow.

There is an

unexpected beauty

to the pain.

From where I lay,

it is the one thing

I can rely on

to never leave.
