“A Voice of Reason”

You’ve been here all along.
If was you–
the voice in the depths of my mind,
pushing me to keep moving.
My voice of reason;
the angel on my shoulder.
I’m sorry–
how horrible it must have been
for your great efforts
to fall on deaf ears.
Imagining where
I would be standing
if I had stopped running;
if I had started listening
is deeply frustrating.
I am truly sorry
for contributing to our suffering.
