“Opening Up”
By Ashley O’Hare
You asked for my name;
fished for my wildest dreams.
Did I wish for fame?
Did I want a white wedding?
When did I change my hair?
Was it intentional?
Did I like that boy over there?
Would it hurt to know he didn’t feel the same?
If you were ever the friend
you confidently claimed,
how could you take the knife
and leave me maimed?
How could I have been so blind?
It isn’t like me to open up to someone
who never paid me any mind.
