“Love Songs”
By Ashley O’Hare
Countless songs
are centered around
falling in love.
They accurately capture
the fluttering butterflies
and thundering hearts.
What they leave behind
are the sudden insecurities
and deafening doubts:
What if I am not good enough?
What if this is all in my head?
Why can’t I look like the girls who catch his eye?
Should my precious time be given to this guy?
Why won’t his face leave my mind?
Why does his voice bring me calm?
If I feel peace, is it wrong?
I don’t think falling in love
was designed for me.
I overthink too much
to deserve such a fragile thing.
