“My Room” Poem of the Day (2022)

“My Room”

By Ashley O’Hare

Pictures on the walls,

lights in every corner–

my childhood bedroom

was far warmer.

I tore down the photographs

when dark truths spoiled bright memories.

The light bulbs felt out of place

for a room I turned to hide.

Don’t worry-

I bought some abstract art

to line the walls

and dull the echoes.

I have no clue

what the colorful blobs

were intended to represent,

but it successfully got people

to stop worrying again.
