“Identity” Poem of the Day (2023)

“Identity”

By Ashley O’Hare

Who I am

Who I used to be–

I wish that they could meet.

I wish I could tell myself

that life is not neat.

You can plan for years

with blood, sweat, and tears

and still wind up

back at square one.

If it is meant to be,

it will be.

If it is not,

just breathe.

One day you will see

you should have saved your energy.

You cannot force something to stay

if it fights you every step of the way.
