“The Great Plan”

Spending every day inside
was never part of the great plan.
To travel the world
was a top priority
until lurking dangers showed their faces.
If the knife came from my best friend,
why would I risk a stranger’s presence?
If evil can creep deep within,
why wouldn’t I barricade myself in?
This isn’t the life I dreamed about,
but it is what I am stuck with now.
One day I will return to the drawing board
and prepare myself for the public’s court.
Until then, I’ll lie in bed
trying to catch some sleep again-
fighting the lingering monsters in my head.
