“Detailed Analysis”

The note on my desk
has been read
and reread to death.
Nothing has been spared
from the detailed analysis.
Every stroke of the pen,
every chosen adjective
have been searched for hidden meanings.
Surely you would leave a lengthy message.
This unemotional goodbye
cannot be all I have
to remember you by.
Those years spend side by side-
the lessons we learned together through life-
was it all a lie?
Did I ever know
the person you are
behind the eyes?
