Holding hands
hidden from teachers’ eyes-
a puppy love affair.
No intentions.
No concern for the future.
No lies.
Never once contemplating a separation.
Two hearts encouraging each other
in a race against pain.
This can only end
one of two ways:
A sweet tale of unconditional love
to pass down to future generations
or
a bittersweet tragedy
rivaling Romeo and Juliet’s story
in true complexity.
Sweet beginnings
make for painful ends.
