“Inflicted Pain” Poem of the Day (2023)

“Inflicted Pain”

By Ashley O’Hare

You did not ruin me.

I glued the broken pieces back together.

I healed the cuts and bruises.

I found the strength to smile again.

It was a valiant effort on your part-

there were moments I doubted myself.

Everyone around had your face.

Once I fixed my glasses,

the similarities faded.

With clear eyes

I finally realized

the world is full of light.

Thank you.

If you hadn’t hurt me,

I never would have moved

and seen the beauty of the world

outside of my shadow.
