“Deadline”
By Ashley O’Hare
Was my heart skipping a beat,
or was it anxiety?
Did you care about me,
or was I convenient company?
Your intentions have always been disguised:
a wold in sheep’s clothing,
or a modern superman?
Tell me the truth.
Much of my life has been wasted
waiting on your cue
to open communication.
I can’t wait forever.
I’m setting the timer.
By the strike
of midnight,
I am giving up
on the possibility
of a shining, brave knight.
