“Disproved Beliefs” Poem of the Day (2023)

“Disproved Beliefs”

By Ashley O’Hare

Contrary to popular belief

we cannot force our minds to forget.

I remember the boy

whose favorite color was black

because it dulled the emptiness

of everything he lacked.

I remember the girl

who hid at the back of the room

with a book on her knees

and her thoughts with the trees.

I cannot forget

moments that lasted

a mere millisecond.

How delusional do I have to be

to finally release the memories

that have spent years flanking me?

In reality,

they will stay forever

growing,

evolving-

living comfortably within me.
