“Flame”

Did you know
flames tinted blue
are hotter than
those recklessly red?
Blue-
it’s supposed to be
a peaceful hue.
It’s supposed to
make me trust you.
My teachers really
failed me on this one.
Clichés
kept the wolf safe
with the sheep.
Now it’s all I can do
to weep
silently into my pillow.
Instead of finding sleep,
I’m endlessly counting the sheep.
