“Cliffhanger” Poem of the Day (2023)

“Cliffhanger”

By Ashley O’Hare

There are words still lodged in my throat-

sentiments that should have been given

a complete lifetime ago.

How clueless was I

to believe we had more time?

How cruel is our fate

to allow my every mistake?

Countless apologies

for every ounce of grief.

Declarations of brutal truth

that will never transport from me to you.

Now it’s over.

The chapter closed with a cliffhanger,

leaving me alone to imagine

your face; your reaction

to everything I meant to say

during our given days.
