that girl you met
before she suffered with regret?
Did she smile?
Did she hold faith in the world?
Did she run the extra mile?
Was she happy?
Was she trusting of speeches,
carefully written to be motivationally sappy?
Did the light in her eyes
remind you of something you despised?
Was it something she said
that made you move ahead
with your plan to mess with her head?
Are you happy?
Are you proud of the way
you sent her away,
crying in the taxi?
When will you admit
it wasn’t worth it?
